HERE IS A HADITH WHICH DEFINES THE GUIDLINES:   From age 1-7 treat the child as a king. - you should listen to them From age 7-14 treat then as a servant - they should listen to you From age 14-21 they are like a minister - they are not the president, but they have some independence, some rules and they have a mutual respect . and the president often consults with them.        Report
